Greer Moore-Barnes

In Memoriam Greer Moore-Barnes, our founder

The concept of Bellbuoy started mid-1995 when Greer was approached by two of the current non-executive directors, Michael White and Garry McWilliams, who saw the need for a company such as ours. Official registration of Bellbuoy CC took place on 6 February 1996 and, as the sole employee occupying a desk in the BMI offices, Greer set out to establish our mark on the sectional title and community housing profession. Starting with just one client in 1996 and under Greer’s guidance, Bellbuoy grew to a client base exceeding 100 schemes by the tenth year anniversary in 2006. At the celebration of this anniversary, Greer also become a shareholder and Managing Member of Bellbuoy. In 2012 Bellbuoy was converted to a (Pty) Limited company.

The Bellbuoy Group deals with all aspects of the management of both communal and privately owned properties. High quality and service that reflected her motto that we really care was always one of Greer’s motivations, and she was proud to have gained respect from her peers in the profession over the years. She was appointed as a founding Director of the National Association of Managing Agents (NAMA) in 2001, held the position of Chairman for the NAMA East Cape & Border region until 2015 when Bellbuoy’s own Chantel van Heerden took over the reins. She was appointed by the Minister in 2009 to represent NAMA as an alternate director on the Sectional Titles Regulations Board during which time she was active in promoting and achieving important changes. Greer was always passionate about education, and was commissioned by NAMA in 2009 to write their Trustee Training Manual which has been used throughout South Africa, and additionally served as one of NAMA’s accredited trainers for more than five years.

Graham Paddock said with regard to her importance to sectional title and community housing in South Africa that we are standing on the platform that she helped create, that Greer made a real difference, as Steve Jobs may have said “a ding in the universe”. Bellbuoy will continue to build on that legacy. Greer would have it no other way.
